چکیده

Abstract Conservation and improvement of water quality in bodies is an important matter to maintain all its uses as well other human necessities like microclimate regulation leisure. Lakes reservoirs have a complex circulation behavior with vertical temperature profiles changes along the time, resulting differences density stratification condition. This characteristic can directly affect conditions perturbing main indicators. study aims evaluate quasi-3D models' capacity represent hydrodynamic tropical lake effects on variables that characterize quality. To achieve this objective, high-frequency monitoring data were collected, was represented model, accuracy result evaluated by applying statistical indices. The evaluation showed good agreement between field measures simulated results when compared applications. connections seen simulations analysis, which mixing events long periods perturb quality, first re-suspended bed material second blocking surface bottom exchanges. application 3D model gives reproduce reservoir spatial variability profiles, necessary constituents' distributions across column. Therefore, lakes accurately importance improving techniques.

Climate Change Forces New Ecological States in Tropical Andean Lakes

Air temperatures in the tropical Andes have risen at an accelerated rate relative to the global average over recent decades. However, the effects of climate change on Andean lakes, which are vital to sustaining regional biodiversity and serve as an important water resource to local populations, remain largely unknown. Here, we show that recent climate changes have forced alpine lakes of the equ...

Hydrodynamic and Ecological Assessment of a Sub- Tropical Stream in Eastern Australia

A detailed multi-disciplinary field study was conducted in a small subtropical creek in Eastern Australia. Hydraulic and ecological measurements were conducted simultaneously in the river mouth to assess the complexity of a small estuarine system, and the interactions between hydraulic engineering, environmental issues, biology and ecology. The results provide an unique and original snapshot of...

Biogeochemistry of tropical lakes

Biogeochemical processes are driven jointly by mass flux and metabolism, but biogeochemical contrasts across latitude are more strongly related to metabolism than to mass flux. Metabolism can be expressed in terms of metabolic potential, which is regulated by temperature, irradiance, and chemical feedstocks (nutrients, electron acceptors, organic matter). Metabolic potential of autotrophs in tr...

Modeling chlorophyll-a and dissolved oxygen concentration in tropical floodplain lakes (Paraná River, Brazil).

The need for prediction is widely recognized in limnology. In this study, data from 25 lakes of the Upper Paraná River floodplain were used to build models to predict chlorophyll-a and dissolved oxygen concentrations. Akaike's information criterion (AIC) was used as a criterion for model selection. Models were validated with independent data obtained in the same lakes in 2001. Predictor variabl...

Large CO2 disequilibria in tropical lakes

[1] On the basis of a broad compilation of data on pCO2 in surface waters, we show tropical lakes to be, on average, far more supersaturated and variable in CO2 (geometric mean ± SE pCO2 = 1804 ± 35 matm) than temperate lakes (1070 ± 6 matm). There was a significant negative relationship between pCO2 and latitude, resulting in an average decrease of pCO2 by 2.8 ± 0.5% per degree latitude. In ad...
